The Big Bad Blogger Challenge 2009

While looking for things to post about, I came across this. Always up for a challenge I decided to take up the cause for sharing the Second Life experience with those who don't know about it, or even SL residents who want to know my goals and experiences in that particular metaverse.

The challenge is this: For one week starting today, and until the 19th, participants simply blog at least once per each day. Heck, I can do that. It's only a week, right? Besides, I've already gotten my first post out of the way.

Benefit Concert for Relay for Life at the Rock Vegas Dance Club

The Justice League Unlimited of Second Life will be hosting a benefit concert and auction for Relay for Life at the Rock Vegas Dance Club tonight at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Rolypoly/212/130/77.  The entertaiment will begin at 7pm SLT featuring a Cher tribute band and the auction will begin at 8pm.

Featured auction items include:

• A copy of the Teen Titans Tower
  
• A relatively low prim but very cool replica of the Fortress of Solitude as featured on the Superman movie
• A special Green Lantern ninja avatar
• and tons more unique items.

It looks like an event that will be a blast for all who attend.  If only I didn't have this pesky First Life job to go to, otherwise I'd be attending.  I really want that Green Lantern ninja uniform.

Ah well, go yourself and have a good time and donate to a worthy cause.

Lanterns for Life

Pierce Kronos is getting ready to start a 2000 sim trek across the metaverse in order to raise money for Relay for Life.  The plan is for people to donate $L for each mile (meter?  I'm still new at this), and in turn he cashes out the Lindens and gives the proceeds to the charity.

This is why I want to be a part of the Core.  Not just to make the Metaverse safe from griefers but to give actual help to others that will make a difference both in Second Life and in the Real World.  I strongly urge you to donate as little as $1L per mile (or is it meter?  Dang it I gotta check that out...) and help stop cancer.

I remember a few years ago there was some machinema to come out of Second Life called "Better Life" that touched on the topic of people who were unable to do things in the "Real World" finding freedom in the Virtual one.

At the time I found it rather pandering but the more time I spend on SL and talk to people who actually are disabled, the more I realize what a wonderful tool the metaverse can be.

Live Music at the Surfside Hideaway

One of the things an aspiring Superhero such as myself needs to do is to travel around the Metaverse. Not looking for trouble, mind you but to be at the ready if trouble occurs.

Two upsides come from this: One, there's rarely trouble and two, you get to travel to some great places on SL.

Right now I'm reporting live from the Surfside Hideaway where Zorch Boomhauer is playing some super (if you'll pardon the pun,) guitar.

I don't know anything about reporting on music except that I like what I like and Zorch plays music that I like. With a slight gravelly vocal quality and lyrics that question our relationship to the world around us, he literally had me dancing immediately after I showed up at the Hideaway. Which is something I rarely do with acoustic guitar music.

How To Join A Super Hero Group Step One

Yesterday I was granted access to the Green Lantern Core Applicants group by Pierce Kronos. This makes me happy. This is step one to being a part of one of the best active super hero groups in Second Life.

After my initial interview, I'll be able to take the required classes and exams as a GL Rookie. For now I'm just a GL Applicant. Baby steps I suppose.

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

Apparently, not just anybody with a buff avatar and a Power Ring can join the Green Lantern Core. And once you're in, you don't just go around Second Life caging griefers. There's a process.

You take classes and you make sure that whatever is done is done under the Terms of Service for Second Life. A wonderful idea, since using that power to grief griefers just makes you a griefer yourself. That's why I don't go around looking for trouble.

Heroes And Villains

Just so you know, life as a Super Hero isn't all about making sure the virtual world is safe for it's denizens. It's also about dancing, and exploration and meeting like minded others.

Meet Nightgirl Destiny, and no she doesn't always dress like "Empowered," but boy she always knows how to dress.

Nightgirl is the owner of the awesome nightclub "Heroes." Heroes is a place for Super Heroes like me to relax and unwind. Her club features shopping, games and of course, dancing. Support Your Local Super Hero

My name is Fearkiller Dorchester and I'm a Green Lantern.

You might think that I'm a man pretending to be a Green Lantern or you may think that I have some Super Hero delusion and I dress up in a poorly made costume and go from rooftop to rooftop fighting crime. You may think that it's only a matter before I try to use my "Power Ring" to create a bullet blocking shield and wind up in the hospital or the morgue.

Nope. Not gonna happen. I have a Power Ring and it works very well thank you very much. Well, unless I'm in a laggy area or the region I'm in doesn't allow building.

If you're confused, it's because your paradigm hasn't shifted yet. Allow me to make that move for you.

I was born in Second Life, not more than a month ago and my base of operation is on Mogo, where New OA is located. Second Life is an MMORPG which is short for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

You've heard of the Real Life Super Heroes, right? Ordinary human beings with no powers and no abilities other than a larger than normal desire to help their fellow man? I'm not one of them.

I'm a Virtual World Super Hero. That means that I'm, for all intents and purposes, a sort of police officer in one of the many MMORPG's out there in cyberspace. The difference between me and my Real Life counterparts is that I have a lot more, say... influence?

My base of operation is in Second Life. I'm not a member of the Green Lantern Core which is the oldest Lantern fan group in SL (although I do have an application pending). I am a member of the Power Corps which includes various DC Lantern groups, including the Red (or Rage) Lanterns, Blue Lanterns and the Yellow Lanterns, Sinestro's power ring allies.

We're all good guys, though. There are so called "Super Villains" in our particular little slice of cyberspace but they mainly hang out in discos or the seedier roleplay areas.
